Meet the Band!!
The quartet was established in 2016, under leadership of Michael Carpenter, retired Music teacher and Veteran. Majestic Winds is an energetic quartet devoted to honoring the vibrant legacy of jazz music. United by a mutual love for spontaneity, teamwork, and musical discovery, our ensemble unites gifted musicians from various backgrounds and proficiency levels. From timeless classics to groundbreaking creations, we embody the essence of music in its entirety, captivating listeners with our lively shows and contagious enthusiasm.
Guided by our deep-seated passion and love for music, our quartet comprises individuals whose backgrounds reflect a rich mosaic of experiences and expertise. Michael Carpenter, a retired veteran and former music teacher in the Westbury school district, brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to our ensemble. Paula Ebron, an esteemed Westbury High School alumna, infuses our performances with her unique talent and hometown pride. Emma Desulme, also a graduate of Westbury High School, adds her youthful energy and artistic flair to our musical endeavors. Lastly, Dr. Pless M. Dickerson, a former Westbury principal, contributes his leadership and commitment to excellence, ensuring that our performances resonate with both professionalism and heart.
On Baritone Saxophone meet Paula Ebron. She is a twin to Paul Ebron, who passed away in 2019. She graduated from Westbury High School in 1979. Paula also went to Buffalo State College. She graduated from Nassau Community College. Her twin brother introduced her to the band and after some 40 years Music is her life!
On Alto Saxophone meet Dr. Pless M Dickerson. He is a retired educator. His main instrument is the clarinet which he has played since 12 years of age. His secondary instrument is the alto saxophone, which he has played for 5 years.
Dr. Dickerson has the pleasure of playing with the band for about 7 years. It is an amazing experience of followship through music.
Meet Emma Desulme, the musical virtuoso, whose journey began at home, where the notes of her passion first echoed through the rooms. It was in the cozy familiarity of her own space that her love for music took root and flourished, setting her on a path of unparalleled talent and creativity. As a young musician, Emma not only mastered the clarinet and Tenor Saxophone but showcased her exceptional skill at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) on both instruments, achieving top marks at levels five and six.
Since those formative years, Emma has been an integral part of the Quartet, infusing her compositions with a blend of technical prowess and heartfelt emotion. From the band's inception, her deft orchestration has resonated through nine instruments, with the clarinet and Tenor Saxophone standing proudly at the forefront of her sonic tapestry.
But Emma's talents extend far beyond the realm of music. As a self-taught maestro, she seamlessly weaves captivating stories and poetic verses, showcasing her artistry not only through melody but also through the written word. An author and poet of remarkable depth, Emma's creative repertoire knows no bounds.
Yet, it is not only in the realms of music and literature where Emma shines. With unwavering dedication, she serves as a CPR instructor, harmonizing the art of saving lives with her enduring commitment to the band's journey. In each facet of her life, Emma brings a unique harmony, blending passion, skill, and compassion in a symphony of boundless talent and creativity.
Michael Carpenter is both, a retired military musician, and a retired educator. Among many musical instruments, his main instrument is the alto saxophone which he has played since 12 years of age. When he retired from the Westbury School District, he was blessed to follow his next dream, “to give back to the community in which he lived and worked”. In 2015, he started the Yes We Can Community Band, which is now named The Westbury Jazz Collective along with The Majestic Winds Quartet in 2016. He wants to give thanks to God, his wife, Kaye, and all involved.
